Can a AR15 or AK "Pistol" be legally carried concealed?

Postby Newman » Wed Apr 25, 2012 1:40 pm

I've searched for previous discussions and can't find much on the topic.
1. Can one be carried in the car as one would any handgun? (With CHL)
2. Can one be concealed, legally? (With CHL)
I know they are not easy to conceal. That's not the question.

I've heard differing opinions, but no one I know can point me to the facts (if there are any)

Can anyone here help me out?

If it is defined as a handgun, you can conceal it. AR pistols and the like are considered handguns.

Yup. I have seen a handful of conversations about it. As long as it's designed to be used with one point of contact (one grip) then it counts. Just don't put a vertical foregrip on it, or it no longer counts as a handgun.

We have had discussions on that here before, someplace. In my opinion there are a few drawbacks. I'll leave the concealability and possible ballistic shortcomings to others and focus on one other aspect.

In the past it has been reported that more than a few law enforcement officers are just not going to believe that this firearm is a handgun, or in some cases even a legal firearm to own/possess, should they happen to see it. Not an argument I'd want to have alongside the road or wherever, and my debating skills would probably suffer further from being proned out at the time.

To each their own.
Quit worrying, hide your gun well, shut up, and CARRY that handgun!

Or just keep a few mags with 10rnd stripper clips sitting right on top. No loaded. But push one round into the mag......and poof. That gun will just go berzerk and slaughter all the babies.

Like you said in the title, it is called an AK Pistol and an AR Pistol, its a pistol by law. It started life on a new receiver, never had a butt stock attached, the barrel is under 16", and the over all length is under 26". By federal law it is a pistol. While some state laws may prohibit these, Ohio recognizes them the same way they would a derringer when it comes to our concealed handgun laws. Not that i would recommend 98% of these, but by law you could throw it on the seat, dash, twirl it on your finger as you drive, or get Dan to make you a Zlogonje holster if you feel you must conceal it. As long as you have a CHL you are legal.

You must provide pictures. Preferably of someone actually wearing it.
